“We’ve never discussed how completely removing elements can actually make your game BETTER.”

“This week we start learning how to program, with a focus on creating our very first playable character.”
I’ve never been a massive Assassin’s Creed fan, but there is no denying the impact the series has had on the broader gaming industry.
“Quiet Stories was founded in December of 2017, with the sole intention of creating a place where the quieter voices of society could be heard.”
Chris Bowring founded Quiet Stories after several years of struggling with Mental Illness. He grew up thinking he was going to be a film maker or writer, studied Advertising and Communications at Auckland University of Technology, and spent several years working as a freelance games journalist.
However when he developed severe mental health issues, he was forced to drop out of university, lost a 3 year scholarship and was fired from his job. He struggled to rebuild his life for some time, and often found that options for recovery were limited and ineffective.
Quiet Stories was a way to combat his personal demons, and embrace his passion for video games and writing. Every week you’ll find new content on quietstoriesblog.com
We’ll provide thought provoking pieces about video games and the industry that makes them, and update you on ongoing efforts to tell unique stories through games of our own.
Some of our stuff will be funny, a way to relax and unwind. Some of our stuff will be thought provoking and informative. Some of our stuff will be brutally real, tackle hard issues and push you to think about others differently. We hope we can create something for everyone, and help grow the quieter voices in our communities.
The idea of an indie recreation of one your favorite AAA games may sound enticing, but be warned, the end product may not impress.
“Although Breath of the Wild totes some of the greatest mechanical depth and emergent gameplay I’ve ever seen, its world building and narrative doesn’t even come close to that of Horizon.”
This week we debate whether the Shadow of the Colossus remake did enough to stand out in 2018, interview the Creative Director behind The Station and break down how to craft a narrative focused game.
This week we are doing our research and working out the best ways to be efficient with our time during this process.
